Biography
For Linda Martinello landscape is a means by which to synchronously engage with themes of travel, memory, and recall. Exploring evocative and ancient sites abroad in Turkey, Greece, Italy, and Mexico over the past few years have provided her with the material to create series of works on mylar that exist somewhere between abstraction and representation.
Martinello completed postgraduate research studies in Florence, Italy with the Ontario College of Art and Design (2006), a diploma in Fine Arts from Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, and received her Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto (2004). While in her undergraduate years she participated in the University of Toronto International Programs, studying Art and Architecture of the Medieval and Renaissance City: Tuscany and Umbria at the University of Siena, Italy (2001) and Contemporary Art and Politics at the University of Guadalajara, Mexico (2004). She has produced solo shows and has participated in numerous group exhibitions including Imagination at the Durham Art Gallery (2005), AAHLUMNIEX at the Art Gallery of Mississauga (2007), MERGE AGO Art Rental Gallery (2008) and Points of Departure at the Art Gallery of Peel (2009). Her recent solo exhibition was held at Edward Day Gallery in Toronto (2011). Among numerous awards and scholarships, she is a recent recipient of the University of Waterloo President's Graduate Scholarship and holds a SSHRC grant for graduate research.
Martinello's work can be found in private, public, and corporate art collections including Art Gallery of Peel, BMO Financial Group, TD Bank Financial Group, TD Waterhouse, TELUS, and the Donovan Collection.
Linda Martinello is currently pursuing an MFA at the University of Waterloo.
